Pipeline Engineering

Pipeline Engineering

Pipelines are a key lifeline of the transportation and energy supply infrastructure.

Pipelines are used to transport natural gas, crude oil, refined products such as gasoline and diesel, and natural gas liquids, such as ethane and propane, over great distances. Products such as coal and iron ore can also be transported in a water slurry.

While the vast majority of liquid and gas pipelines are located underground, on land and offshore, some liquid pipeline networks, which can be used to transport crude oil, are located above ground. Pipeline engineering embraces the design, construction, operation and maintenance of pipelines, pumping stations and storage facilities.
